Written question to the EC on ways to fund trans-European road axes passing through areas in the Epirus Region

Funding trans-European road axes passing through the Epirus Region, such as the road connections between Ioannina and Kakavia (entry/exit point with Albania) and the Ionia Odos-Preveza-Parga-Igoumenitsa-Mavromati route (second entry/exit point with Albania), could help to develop the region, reduce unemployment and improve road safety.

With the Greek Government’s support, the Epirus Region attempted to include the study for the Ioannina-Kakavia section among the projects in the ‘Development Fund’, but the proposal was rejected by the Commission, while an alternative proposal by the Region for the inclusion of the two road axes in the new NSRF was also unsuccessful.

Epirus lags behind the other regions of Greece and Europe in terms of development, and great efforts are being made to open up its productive activities.

What possibilities and methods for funding and completing the above projects are offered by the relevant EU funding programmes?
