INTA mission to Washington DC … 72 hours, 25 meetings, 102 interlocutors

Ms. Anna Michelle Asimakopoulou, member of the European Parliament and Vice-Chair on the Committee on International Trade, visited Washington this week with a 7-member delegation of MEPs members of the INTA Committee. The particularly dense program included, within 72 hours, 25 meetings with more than 100 interlocutors on EU-US trade relations and cooperation between Europe and the United States.

Ms. Asimakopoulou met, inter alia, with representatives of the State Department, the Special Assistant to President Trump and Senior Director for Trade Policy, representatives of the US Trade Representation and the US Chamber of Commerce, the General Secretaries of the Department of the Treasury and the International Trade Administration, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Trade of the House of Representatives, as well as with representatives of US companies and the civil society.

It is worth underlining that this mission was the first EP trade delegation to the US since 2013, and was the result of related discussion between the President of the European Commission, Mrs Ursula von der Leyen, and the President of the United States, Mr Donald Trump, in Davos in January.
